Additional comments:
I didn't get many pictures or any measurements of the fish to really document it (I had no idea about this research group at the time and wanted to quickly return it back to the water. sorry I couldn't document the fishes right side) but hopefully this is enough to maybe ID or just great information to receive and hear. I would say the fish was about 30"-40" long and somewhere in the 40lb range. Fish was safely released alive and well!
